A Conversation with Christine & John Gachot

Christine & John Gachot are the founders of GACHOT, a design studio and development consultancy with service at its core, inspired by a modern sensibility with an eye towards livable comfort. GACHOT designs unique experiences with a refined aesthetic and a radical sense of place and looks at each project with a wide lens, developing a conceptual narrative with the client that weaves through the design and informs every minute detail. This year, Christine & John Gachot grace our Design & Art Advisory Council, and we took the opportunity to ask them some rapid-fire questions about exhibitors they are excited to see at the fair, their favorite NYC museum and building, and more.

Christine & John Gachot

What exhibitors are you excited to see at the fair?

Our friends! Maison Gerard, Donzella Ltd., NILUFAR, Weinberg Modern Books, Galerie Marcilhac, Galerie Chastel-Maréchal, David Gill Gallery – to name a few!

What’s your go-to NYC spot for creative inspiration?

CG takes cues from the Fashion World. Tailoring is everything! Palettes for tone. Currently, Khaite is a verb.

What’s your favorite NYC museum?

The Met is John’s Church!

What’s your favorite NYC building?

CG has always been inspired by the UN. Sublime Perfection! The view from the East River Sea Plane is worth

the cost of the flight!

What is your most recent acquisition?

We love smalls and have recently dabbled in Silver. Our latest find was a sterling silver dish with a cloisonné ace of diamonds pattern.

What’s the best design advice you’ve ever received?

Triple-check that it fits through the door, up the stairs, in the lift, and in the room! 101 lessons are always the best and the most taken for granted. I learned that one the hard way! Apologies again, Mr. Sofield!

What’s a recent assignment or project you’re proud of?

Refreshing The Patrons Lounge at The Metropolitan Opera was a way to give back to a New York City treasure that offers so much!
