Art + Design Favorites

What exhibitors are you excited to see at the fair?

I am most excited to see Crosta Smith Gallery’s Jean-Michel Frank presentation—they have impeccable taste in both their selection and presentation of work and their aesthetic as a design gallery.

What’s your favorite piece of art/design in your own home or collection?

A 1900 three-seat Bugatti sofa that I acquired at auction in Paris and had beautifully restored at Miguel Saco here in NY. Also, a perfectly proportioned 1930 Jacques Adnet club chair from Calderwood in Philadelphia which my partner and I recovered in a dark charcoal Holland and Sherry wool suiting fabric.

If you were designing your dream home, which pieces would you choose?

From this edition of Salon Art + Design, I would choose the beautiful Maxime Old Marhaba armchair from 1953 that will be with Anne Jacquemin Sablon. Also, I would surely include Bossa’s Estofado chair and I could not resist the Giacometti Feuille floor lamp at Galerie Marcilhac.

Who is your favorite artist to collect?

Wolfgang Tillmans and Old Masters drawings.

What’s your favorite NYC museum?

Neue Galerie is, in my opinion, the epitome of what a private museum should be in both

collection and architecture, and the Guggenheim is where I have experienced some of the

most powerful interactions between art and architecture that I could imagine.

What’s your favorite NYC building?

The Chrysler Building, which endures as a symbol of Manhattan at one of its greatest moments

in history.

What is your most recent acquisition?

A 1993 Bruce Richards domino painting that I acquired from Sea View, one of my favorite

galleries in LA.

Plugs

What’s a recent assignment or project you’re proud of?

I assisted a German mega-collector in creating a digital inventory from scratch of over 3,000

works of art and furniture within 3 months, a rigorous process which taught me a lot about

design as well as serving as a valuable lesson in satisfying client needs efficiently.

What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?

I am currently working on a project with Julia Ransom and Johanna Dunn, the co-founders of

London-born design brand Ransom & Dunn. We are collaborating on an upcoming selling

installation in New York led by our shared curatorial eye, which will incorporate their designs

with my own selection of art within an incredible historic space. I am excited about this project

as the marriage of art and design under one roof is akin to the mission of Salon Art + Design.
